Chains and cassettes on an E-bike go through a lot of wear and stress as a result of the extra torque, power and distance you can ride. A clean drivetrain will significantly extend the longevity of the chain and cassette, but as with most moving parts on mountain bikes, they do require regular upkeep and replacement. Most tool or drivetrain manufacturers supply wear indicator tools. Replacing the cassette and chain is straightforward, with only a few inexpensive specialist tools required. Remember to measure your old chain in order to correctly fit the new, and to replace the old with the same as before, unless you're changing the gear ratios as well. You'll be surprised how easy the process is, and it will make all the difference in your gear shifting.
